Chapter 6: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sr. Hierba de Trigo

Chapter 6
by Christi

Apparently, I was to meet some dude in Corpus Christi, Texas, and board a plane to head out to Mexico. There, I was to meet a guy at a small airstrip in Merida, Yucatan. The name of my contact is supposedly Pedro, but I think to myself, that's probably just an alias.

I was also in need of a passport.

I had a friend who worked for a guy that coulda got me one pretty fast, but I had to take the legal route. This was even faster than I had expected; because of a less than scandalous life thus far, my background check was hyperquick. So although I did not expect to encounter any official folks on my travels, I was at least armed with a passport. A legal one.

When I landed, the sun was beaming down. I could see the ocean in the near distance. The water was dark and drab, not as tropically blue as I'd thought it would be.

Pedro met me wielding an AK-47 and demanded ID. Thank goodness I had the passport! He led me down a long path, the gun at my back the whole way. Though near the ocean, it was not as humid as it had been in Dallas or Corpus Christi.

It was just then, I realized... while I was being led to the rendezvous point near a small airstrip in Merida, Yucatan with a gun at my back and liquid fear running down my face that I'd completely forgotten to call in to work. Yep. So I guess I know where that leaves me!

"Look, Pedro, sir, I really gotta get to a phone. It's gonna be a no call no show and I'll get fired if I don't call in."

He said something in Spanish. Given that he pushed the gun into my back a little harder, I concluded his words were not on the kind side. I decided it's best to be fired than fired upon! Good grief...

Chapter 7 ahoy...
